Beyond The Classroom

Our extra and super-curricular programme is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our students.

All of our Sixth Formers are offered a tailored programme of extra-curricular support to enable them to extend themselves both academically and personally, and to enhance their opportunities for successful applications to university and employment.

Our curriculum is supplemented with a wide range of visits, workshops and external speakers. The overwhelming majority of our visits are provided free of charge to enable all students to access enrichment opportunities. We have a dedicated Enrichment Week in June for our Year 12 students to enjoy following their End of Year 12/ UCAS Mock Examinations.

All students benefit from access to:

  • Student Leadership Programme & the opportunity to become School Captains
  • Duke of Edinburgh's Award - we have a dedicated D of E Coordinator click here to read more
  • Careers Guidance, 1:1 careers interviews, CV coaching & interview practice
  • UCAS & Personal Statement Coaching - weekly tutorials
  • Weekly sports & fitness activities
  • Work experience & university visits

The EPQ (Extended Project Qualification)

The EPQ is a level 3 qualification (worth half an A Level or 28 UCAS points)

It is an independent research project which is overseen by a supervisor, and which extends the skills required at and beyond A Level.  The EPQ is a key part of our academic offer as well as our Oxbridge and BTEC pathways at the John Roan Sixth Form.
