Careers Guidance at The John Roan School Sixth Form

Careers

At The John Roan School Sixth Form, our careers provision ensures that students are inspired, confident and ambitious in achieving their university and career goals:

Inspired

Students will be inspired by their teachers’ commitment to getting them to their desired destination.

Confident

Students will feel confident in their own abilities and future prospects.

Ambitious

Students are ambitious in their goals because they have the support they need to succeed.

  • Students have access to a Sixth Form dedicated 1-2-1 careers mentor that can advise on different pathways.
  • A comprehensive PSHE programme to prepare students for Post-18
  • Students have access to a range of employment insight trips and presentations.
  • Students have the opportunity to engage in work experience, including a dedicated work experience week in June of Year 12 to develop a range of personal and employability skills.

We work with Unifrog to provide students with a holistic careers service at school.

Every student has a Unifrog log in and guided sessions are timetabled into students’ time with their tutors during Year 12. Unifrog has over 50,000 careers profiles and helps students with the following:

  • Understanding and building their own ambitions for the future through exposure to a wide range of careers and industries

  • Allowing students to explore courses at universities, including example personal statements, grade requirements, different universities and wider reading

  • Helping students explore universities in the UK, Europe and America with guidance on the differing application processes

  •  A live apprenticeship tracker to allow students to see apprenticeship opportunities available in real time and then apply

  • Supporting the development of a UCAS personal statement and CV
