Student Leadership and the School Council

The aims of Student Council are to represent, lead and positively impact the whole school community

Our School Council plays a valuable part in enhancing the experience of our students through representing students' interests, working to improve the school environment, and providing leadership opportunities.

The Student Council represents students across the school

Our School Council is comprised of

  • 38 x General School Council Members with two representatives elected from each KS3 tutor group
  • 4 x Executive Committee members from Year 10 (2 x Co-Preseidents and 2 x Secretaries)

The full School Council meetings take place on a bi-weekly basis. The 4 year 10 executive members will be permitted to have an early lunch on these days.

The meeting agenda and meeting minutes will be shared with Dr Nicholas Taylor-Mullings and Dr Jennie Sanderson.

School Prefects

We have selected a committed team of prefects. All students applied formally for these positions, and successful candidates were chosen based on the clarity of their vision and their passion for making a positive impact within our school community.

As part of this process, students take part in formal leadership interviews. From these, we appointed four prefect leaders, including our Head Boy and Head Girl, who will play a key role in driving standards and supporting whole-school initiatives.

Roles, Responsibilities and Duties

Prefects are fully briefed on their roles and responsibilities, with a clear expectation that they model the highest standards of behaviour for their peers.

Leadership, Visibility and Accountability

Prefects are easily identifiable by their distinctive badges and ties, which set them apart as student leaders within the school. Feedback is collected through our lead prefects, who ensure that the team are punctual, prepared and fulfilling their responsibilities consistently.

Review and Next Steps

We review the effectiveness of the prefect system, taking on board student and staff feedback to refine and strengthen the programme where needed. Our aim is to ensure the system remains impactful, supportive and meaningful for all involved.
