Oxbridge Success for The John Roan Sixth Form

Mixed school in Greenwich experiences its best ever year for university offers.

The John Roan Sixth Form is enjoying its most successful year ever for university offers, with four students offered places at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, in offers including Imperial College London, Kings College London, University of the Arts London, and Durham University.

In addition, several students this year have been offered places at top UK universities including Loughborough, Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham, Exeter, Cardiff, York and Warwick, Queen Mary, UCL, Sheffield and Southampton.

This is the time in over five years that a student from The John Roan Sixth Form has received an offer to the Universities of Oxford or Cambridge and the first time in many years that the school has received offers in such numbers. The offers demonstrate the success of The John Roan Sixth Form’s Competitive Admissions Pathway, introduced in 2022, which sees students meet on a weekly basis to prepare their applications in competitive fields, such as in Medicine, Dentistry and to the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. The programme takes the students beyond their school curriculum, engaging in deeper philosophical analysis, thematic and critical thinking, debating and logical reasoning.

Eleanor Porter, Head of Sixth Form and the Competitive Admissions process, said:

‘Seeing the success of our students applying to Oxford and Cambridge has been a very proud moment for all of us involved in their applications. The offers our students have received from some of the UK’s most prestigious institutions are clear evidence of the growing ambitions of our students, and also that our Sixth Form successfully supports students in reaching for those ambitions.’

Cath Smith, Principal at The John Roan School, said:

‘The incredible offers our students have received this year are a clear indication of the trajectory of our Sixth Form: with rapidly growing numbers of applicants and students year on year, we are thrilled that the 2023 university offers reflect our school’s tireless dedication to bettering our provision every year.’
