Priority order If there are more applicants than places available, priority will be given in the following order:
- Looked-after children A ‘looked-after child’ is a child who is in care of a local authority, including foster care.
- Siblings Children who have a brother or sister who will be on roll (in Years seven to 11) at the school at the time of the child’s admission. This does not include students attending for sixth form studies. Brother or sister means a full, half, step, long-term fostered, adopted or child living at the same address.
- Other children Within criterion three, applicants may be given higher priority on the grounds of professionally supported medical or social need for that particular school. The Medical/Social Admissions Panel will consider advice offered by social workers, health visitors and other professionals.
In the event that two or more applicants have equal right to a place under any of the above criteria, priority will be given to those who live nearest to the school.
Distance from home to school is measured electronically using a computerised mapping system. Measurement will be according to a straight line from a single fixed point in the centre of the home address to the main entrance of the school.
Applications for a place at The John Roan School outside of the annual year 7 intake each September should be made via the Royal Borough of Greenwich here.
