Health & Social Care

Curriculum Purpose

The purpose of the Health and Social Care curriculum is to equip students with the vocational skills, experience and knowledge to enter a career/profession in this field.

  • The principles of the Health & Social Care curriculum

Here we explore the John Roan curriculum principles in the context of the Health & Socual Care curriculum:

    ·        Entitlement: Students will cover a wide range of topics which focus on the development of human lifespans and the effects that factors have on the health and well-being of individuals.

    ·        Coherence:  The curriculum is carefully sequenced and aims to build on the previous component (coursework). This culminates in a synoptic external examination at the end of year 11.

    ·        Mastery: Our students will practice vocational skills throughout each component of work and be able to demonstrate these with confidence.

    ·        Adaptability: Each lesson addresses a specified criteria. Teachers are encouraged to adapt lessons to meet the needs of the group, whilst still meeting the identified criteria.

    ·        Representation:  The Health and Social Care curriculum is fully inclusive and addresses every aspect of life focusing on individual needs and preferences. Students are encouraged to actively embrace culture, religion and personal preferences in their research and coursework.

    ·        Education with character: Through the curriculum, students are given many opportunities to share, reflect and learn about each other’s experiences. Students are encouraged to use this understanding of individual needs in their coursework.
